NEW SUPERbrand SITE COMING THIS WEEK
We’re working on the new improved SUPERbranded.com right now. Be patient—we’re launching later this week with a preview of all the new board shapes and designs hitting in March, plus beginning in February SUPERbranded.com is your daily dose of Clay, Dion, and Ry. Surfing. Surfing. And more SUPERbranded surfing. It’s going to be all-time.
new Dion footage
Check this rippin stuff of Dion killin it on his SUPERbrand shred sled. The Dion model has moderate entry rocker for massive speed. A slightly pinched rail for sharp turing in the pocket. A great board for performance surfing. Check one out at your local shop.
modern collective extra footage
Here is some schwag left-over footage from Dion and Mitch and Michael Spencer. Still some fine air moves here…so the stuff in the real flick is gonna be extra special, right? Sure will be. Dion is riding a 5’10” Dion Model here by SUPERbrand. It is good for all types of surfing: fun, fun, and more fun. Yep.
clay and rob shralpin
How’s this little find! From the upcoming flick…Castles in the sky…rob and clay gettin butter in Peru. Inspiring to watch the masters. Tube gurus, these are. Science of the barrel. And totally bitchen!
Clay broke all his boards on this trip cuz he was getting in the so deep. These sandbar points will explode ya. But look how rad it is when these two cats are just cruising so mellow in these long chambers. Like Gerry and Rory got in a time machine and went to the moon. With air drops. And tail chucks. And every thing in between. We’re for it. SUPER.
sad somehow
What a pretty version of this song. I, myself, I just returned from a voyage abroad. I was on the Pacific seacoast of Mainland Mexico. A wild land. A gorgeous land. The waves were cooking…as usual. Surfed a really long right hand sandbar point outside of a vast estuary. Viewed a few nice birds (not female humans) but real birds. Egrets, I suppose. White birds. Caught some of the best rides I’ve ever rode. Real smooth tubes. Fast and fun. Surfed my brains out and drank sweet coconut juice afterwards. Got tan. Smiled. Down there the poor people aren’t so sad. I mean, everyone is probably sad in life, overall. But what I mean is that the Mexican people of the Mainland are less eggy than many of the Mexican people who live near the borders of the USA. No…that’s a generalization…a stereotype. But, maybe somewhat true. Anyhow, when I found this little acoustic ‘Corona’ from Minutemen ‘double nickels on the dime’ (a real lotta songs on that one). Shoots, anyhow, when I listen to this song just fresh back from Mexico I’m reminded that D.Boon was a real good poet. If you’ve grown up white in So-Cal and know the feeling of growing up a bit disdainful towards Mexican people…and then you’re young and you find yourself in Rosarito on a weekend. Like I’d be there to go surfing and eat tacos and all…some of my friends would blaze down to get high on cheap meds from the corner farmacias. And try not to die on the drive home. But whoever we were we all saw the same things: the poor native people, the trash and stuff blowing around like tumbleweeds, the impending crime lurking in the shadow or in the policeman by the ALTO sign. Some sort of sad weird time just waiting to pop out like a dooped old jack in a box. It was all fun. I remember good waves at the Powerplant in Rosie. Offshores. Sand blowing and hovering up and down the lanes by the beach. All those roads lead down to those waves. Spitters and twisters and grinders and the water always pretty cold. Said it was the Japanese current down there. Full suit on in the hot afternoon Santa Ana winds. Dirt caking to the sunscreen: warpaint! Defiant gringo face. Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Hide the car keys. Find a rip and paddle out. So happy to remember these dreams. Still the people, the natives, are poor. Don’t have much. I haven’t been down in a while because we all hear about beheadings and stuff. Heads getting put on spikes in the TJ square: Gringo dies. Who cares. Drug dealers are pissed for some reason. Crooks are running wild. Waves are pretty empty now and we’re all stuck surfing at home. I’m sure that some real core dudes are still down surfing BMs and Rosie and San Miguel, but I haven’t been down in a while…
lyrics:
Corona by Minutemen (San Pedro, dude)
‘the people will survive
in their environment
the dirt, scarcity, and emptiness
of our south
The injustices of our greed
the practice we inherit
the dirt, scarcity, and the emptiness
of our south
I could see it in her eyes
there on the beach
I only had a Corona
5 cent deposit…
